Young Science Achievers Program (YSAP) Awards

The Superintendent is pleased to report that two Academy seniors and two juniors represented the Academy at the Young Science Achievers Program (YSAP) Awards Ceremony on June 9th at the Liberty Science Center.

Seniors Joseph Schiavone and Kevin Lyman were awarded an honorable mention for their project “iChair: Mobility, Redefined.”  The project, which involved guiding a motorized wheelchair, was developed as part of the senior project required for graduation from the Edison Academy.

Juniors Vivien Cheng and Akshaya Uttamadoss were recognized for their project “Effects of Music on Concentration Levels and Logical Abilities.”

Vivien Cheng was also awarded a ten-week paid summer internship as part of the Research Experience for High School Students Program in the MIRTHE (Mid Infrared Technologies for Health and the Environment) Center at Princeton University. She will work in a research lab with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.  At the conclusion of the internship, she will participate in the MIRTHE Summer Workshop to present her summer research findings in a poster session.

The Middlesex County Vocational and Technical High Schools have instituted a summer Reading program as an initiative to improve adolescent literacy.
