Academy Celebrates Engineering Week
From February 27th to March 3th, Academy students participated in the annual Engineering Week. Each day a special engineering-related activity took place.
On Monday, students presented a variety of engineering-related topics including current news, their own projects, and objects of interest.
On Tuesday, the district-wide Career Tech Expo was held, in which students presented ideas and projects in front of district judges. The winners were as follows:
1st place: Apollo's Ace, a phone application for musicians - juniors Lucent Fong, Abhishek Hariharan, Rohan Mehra, and Surya Venkatram.
2nd place: Exoskeleton, a training and strengthening system - sophomores Jatin Lankada, Akhil Maheshwary, Mohamed Sufiyaan, and Adrian Wiley.
3rd place: Digital Distance, a mobile application used to measure distances - juniors Kunal Adhia, Zarir Hamza, Poojit Hegde, and Abhishek Patel.
On Wednesday, students enjoyed talks by engineers currently in the field.
On Thursday, they watched the movie The Imitation Game to give a broader view on the field of engineering.
Engineering Week concluded on Friday with the Safe Landing problem-solving competition in which students created a device that allowed a ping pong ball to remain within a cup when dropped from a height.
Many students also participated in a poster competition. The winners were as follows, with the winning posters pictured below:
1st place: sophomores Kaileann Villaneuva, Anna Sivaraj, and Aparna Natarajan
2nd place: freshmen Lesley Garcia, Ryan Shah, and Ria Vijayvargiya
3rd place: juniors Anjali Bothra, Riya Agarwal, and Maya Pandurangan
Honorable Mention: juniors Julie Pirro and Christine Matthews
The week's events were planned and organized by juniors Anjali Gupta and Anusha Nagar with the guidance and supervision of Academy engineering instructors Enzo Paterno and Dr. Marc Weinstein. Overall, Engineering Week was a fun and rewarding experience for Academy students!
